Good call. It's a game, and it's made in the 21st century. If you want purist RPG, go play DnD. This is a fun game to play for casual players, not hardcore RP'ers.

Guild Wars has an extremely disappointingly low amount of easter eggs compared to most other games. The only one I can remember is the Elaine Rigbey Easter Egg in Ascalon city...because that's the only one that I've seen that was cool.

It bugs me, but Guild Wars never was terribly immersive. Let's hope it's a little better next time.

Well the story presentation is nothing epic to boast about. So I like the humor in the names.
Maybe not if the game were more serious.

The main campaigns are serious (save for GW:EN, ungh), but everything else is just too humorous. It really gets to me sometimes.
If most of the quests and the like were written as good as Gwen's encounter with her mother, then I'd be playing through the games again and again.

Agree with Bryant. I like a few of them, they are amusing, but at the same time ruin any amount of role-playing immersion the game would otherwise have. I do hope that GW2 is more role-player friendly, and that these pop-culture references are kept at a minimum.

I was very, very amused when I saw the bosses named after Ensign and JR. Some are pretty lame, though.
EDIT: the master and bloodlight chat between those two kids at the snowball arena was awesome.

Yeah i think that's what did it for me. Got over it once i started seein loads of dinosaurs in GWEN and robot lookin golems (i know ppl explained how they are magic but they will always seem like poorly explained robots to me though). Then i couldn't take the game seriously if i wanted either way.

I've found Ensign, but which one's named after JR my noobcake, cause I can't find it in the Wiki.

Well, since I wrote the Drakes on the Plain article for GuildWiki... I think I'll have to say I like them.

I like them most of the time, some are pretty funny. I don't really play for immersion and I have a better time when I have a laugh.

Too many references are cheap, they cannot replace a proper story and some ingenuity.
They are good as an addition for a laugh and I in general like them, but they need a proper world building to back them up, not even more references to pop culture.
